Component-Level Circuit Modelling

Most SSL-style compressor plugins approximate the overall curve. The Glue simulates the actual VCA gain cell, timing capacitors, and transformer-coupled output stage in real time. It also ships with two distinct voicings. “Old” mode models the original 1980s G-Series circuit with its softer knee and slower release — ideal for gentle mix buss work. “New” mode is based on the revised 1990s version with tighter response and more aggressive compression. HPF Sidechain — Stop the Pumping

When compressing a full mix or drum buss, low frequencies — especially kick drums and 808s — trigger the compressor harder than everything else. That’s what causes the classic “pumping” sound. The Glue’s high-pass filter on the sidechain circuit routes those low frequencies out of the detector. Set it to 60 Hz, 90 Hz, or 150 Hz, and the compressor ignores kick energy while still reacting to midrange and high-frequency content. You get glue without the rhythmic breathing.

Mix Control & Clip Mode

The Mix knob gives you parallel compression without routing through aux tracks — blend compressed and dry signals on the same insert. Clip mode adds hard-clipping saturation at the output stage, adding harmonic presence and perceived loudness when used subtly. On drum busses particularly, it adds body without the harshness of heavy limiting.

Drum Buss

Set the ratio to 4:1 with a 10 ms attack, 0.1 ms manual release, and HPF at 90 Hz. The faster attack catches transient peaks while the manual release prevents kick-pumping. Subgroups
